Selling a Car Registered to a Company in Dubai
A car registered to a company in Dubai is sold by the company, not by the person who drives it. The RTA usually asks for a valid trade licence, the Emirates ID of the authorised signatory, and a letter on company letterhead, signed and stamped, authorising the sale and naming the person handling it. If there is a loan or lease, it must be cleared with the bank or leasing company first. Send Carology the car details and say it is a company car: we will tell you what we need and give you a price range before you come in.
Who can sign
The company is the owner, so the transfer is signed by someone with authority to act for it, normally the manager or partner named on the trade licence, or someone they authorise in writing. An employee who has driven the car for years cannot sell it on their own, even if the company has agreed to let them.
Documents the RTA usually asks for
- A valid trade licence
- The authorised signatory's Emirates ID, or their passport and visa
- A letter on company letterhead, signed and stamped, authorising the sale and naming the person handling it
- The mulkiya (registration card)
- Requirements change, so check the current list with the RTA before the day
Expired trade licence or closing the company
An expired trade licence is the most common thing that holds up a company car sale, because the RTA needs a valid licence to act for the company. If you are closing a business, sell the cars before the licence is cancelled, and include them in the liquidation plan. Leaving it until afterwards makes every step harder.
Selling a company car to an employee or a partner
If the car is going to the person who drives it, it is still a normal RTA transfer from the company to that person, with the same company documents. If that person then wants to sell it on, they can do so once it is in their name.
Loans and leases
Company cars are often on a business loan or a lease. Either must be cleared with the bank or leasing company first and the release issued before the RTA will transfer the car. Carology does not deal with your bank.
The simple route
Send the car details and tell us it is a company car. We will tell you which documents we need and give you a price range before anyone drives anywhere. When you sell to Carology you get one firm offer with no hidden deductions, you are paid by bank transfer or cash before you leave, and we complete the RTA transfer. The valuation is free and there is no obligation.
