Why people end up selling from abroad

Most owners plan to sell before they fly, then the move happens faster than the sale. A job ends early, the family leaves first, a private buyer backs out at the last minute, or the car sits in a building car park while its owner is already settled in another country. The car keeps costing money: parking, insurance, Salik, registration renewal and, if it is financed, the monthly instalment.

The good news is that being outside the UAE does not stop you from selling. What matters is that the car can be inspected and collected in Dubai, and that you can still approve the ownership transfer as the registered owner.

What you need: UAE Pass and a few minutes on a call

The RTA ownership transfer can be approved digitally with UAE Pass, so you do not have to stand at an RTA centre. • An active UAE Pass on your phone, linked to a valid Emirates ID

What if my Emirates ID or visa is already cancelled?

UAE Pass is tied to your Emirates ID. If your residency has already been cancelled and the ID is no longer valid, the digital approval route may not be available. In that case the fallback is a power of attorney issued to someone you trust in the UAE, who signs the transfer on your behalf. Contact us before you arrange anything: in many cases there is a simpler route, and if a POA is needed we tell you exactly what it has to say so it is accepted at the RTA.
