Selling a Flood-Damaged Car in the UAE

A flood-damaged car in the UAE can still be sold. If it has comprehensive insurance, talk to your insurer first, because flood damage is often covered and they may repair it or declare it a total loss. If you are not claiming, or you want to compare, Carology buys damaged cars as they are: send photos showing how high the water came and we make an offer that reflects the damage. Do not try to start a car that has been under water; tell us and we arrange collection. Payment and the RTA transfer happen in one visit.

First: do not start it

If water got into the engine, turning the key can draw it into the cylinders and destroy the engine in seconds. Disconnect the battery if you can, take photos of the water line inside and outside the car, and leave it until it has been checked or collected.

How bad is it? The water line

  • Below the doors: often only carpets, brakes and wheel bearings need attention
  • Above the floor: carpets, seat motors, wiring and modules under the seats are at risk
  • Up to the dashboard: expect electrical faults, and on many cars the engine and gearbox too
  • Salt or sewage water does more damage than rainwater

Insurance claim or sale?

With comprehensive cover, check your policy for flood or natural disaster cover and report the damage quickly, because insurers set deadlines. If the insurer offers a settlement or declares the car a total loss, talk to us before you accept, so you can compare our offer with theirs. With third-party only, flood damage is not covered and a sale as it is is usually the best route.

Why repairing first rarely pays

Flood repairs are expensive and electrical faults can keep appearing for months. Buyers also look for flood signs, such as a musty smell, rust under the seats and silt in the boot, and will discount the car heavily once they find them. Selling as it is, honestly described, usually leaves you with more money and less risk.

How the sale works

  • Send photos, including the water line, and the car's details on WhatsApp
  • Get an offer that reflects the damage
  • We arrange collection if the car should not be driven
  • Payment by bank transfer or cash and the RTA transfer done for you

If the car has a bank loan, it must be cleared with your bank first: pay it off, get the clearance letter and the mortgage release, and then the car can be sold like any other.
