Selling a Car That Failed the RTA Test in Dubai

You do not have to pass the RTA test to sell your car in Dubai if you sell it to a dealer. A failed test means the car needs repairs before it can be registered or transferred to a private buyer, but Carology buys cars that failed as they are, deducts the repair and passing cost from the offer and handles the test itself. Small, cheap fixes such as a bulb or a wiper are worth doing yourself; bigger ones like suspension, brakes, emissions or chassis work usually are not worth paying for just to sell.

Common reasons cars fail

  • Lights, indicators and number plate lights not working
  • Worn tyres or tyres past their age
  • Brakes and handbrake below standard
  • Suspension, steering or wheel bearing play
  • Exhaust leaks or emissions
  • Window tint darker than allowed
  • Leaks under the car, or damage to the chassis

Repair or sell as it is?

Look at the failure report. If it lists cheap items you can fix in an afternoon, fix them and retest. If it lists work that costs thousands, a private buyer will knock off more than the repair cost, and you still have to pay for the garage and the retest. Selling as it is usually leaves you with more money and much less time spent.

Why a failed car is hard to sell privately

A private buyer cannot register the car until it passes, so most will walk away or offer very little. The ones who stay are usually traders looking for a bargain. A dealer can buy it because the repair and test are part of their normal work.

How the sale works

  • Send photos, the details and the failure report on WhatsApp
  • Get a price range that already counts the repairs
  • Firm offer after a short inspection, payment by bank transfer or cash before you leave
  • We handle the passing and the RTA transfer

If the car has a bank loan, it must be cleared with your bank first: pay it off, get the clearance letter and the mortgage release, and then the car can be sold like any other.

When you sell to Carology you get one firm offer with no hidden deductions, you are paid by bank transfer or cash before you leave, and we complete the RTA transfer. The valuation is free and there is no obligation.
