Selling a Modified Car in Dubai: Tint, Wheels, Exhaust and More
Most modifications do not add to a car's resale price in Dubai, and some lower it. Buyers and dealers pay for a clean, standard car with a known history, so aftermarket wheels, loud exhausts, lowered suspension, wraps and engine tuning are usually worth little or nothing at sale time, and anything that would fail the RTA test is deducted. If you still have the original parts, put them back or include them. Modifications that keep or add value
- Dealer-fitted factory options, such as a genuine body kit or upgraded wheels from the manufacturer

Modifications that usually cut the price
- Loud or straight-pipe exhausts
- Lowered suspension, coilovers or lift kits
- Engine tuning or remapping, which can raise questions about reliability and warranty
- Vinyl wraps in unusual colours, especially if the paint underneath is unknown
- Very large or very cheap aftermarket wheels
- Aftermarket lights and interior changes
What can fail the RTA test
Tint darker than allowed, an exhaust that is too loud, ride height changes, lights that do not meet the standard and some body changes can all fail the test. A car that cannot pass cannot be transferred to a private buyer, so these items get deducted, either by the buyer or by the cost of putting them right.
Put the original parts back?
If you kept the original wheels, exhaust or suspension, refitting them is usually worth it, or at least include them with the car. If you no longer have them, sell the car as it is and be upfront about the changes. Hiding modifications only leads to a lower offer at the inspection.
