Tesla Battery Replacement Cost in the UAE: Repair or Sell As Is?

Is your battery still under warranty?

Tesla's battery and drive unit warranty runs for 8 years, with a kilometre limit that depends on the model and version, and covers failure as well as capacity falling below 70 percent during that time. Check the dates and mileage for your car in the Tesla app or with the Service Centre before you pay for anything. Cars imported from other markets may have different warranty terms, so confirm yours.

What decides the replacement cost

• Model and battery size: a Model S or X pack costs more than a Model 3 or Y pack
• Whether a module repair is possible or the full pack must be replaced
• New, remanufactured or used replacement parts
• Related parts and labour, such as cooling components or the drive unit
• Tesla Service Centre or an independent EV specialist

Only a written quote tells you the real number for your car. Ask for it in writing, with the fault code, so you can compare it with what the car is worth.

Signs your Tesla battery has a problem

• Range noticeably lower than when the car was newer
• A "maximum battery charge reduced" or battery service message
• The car will not charge, or charges very slowly
• Warnings about the high-voltage system or drive unit
• The car will not drive or go into gear

Repair or sell: a simple test

Compare three numbers: the repair quote, what the car would sell for with a healthy battery, and what it sells for as it is. If the repair costs more than the difference between the last two, selling as it is leaves you better off. For older, higher-mileage Teslas out of warranty, that is usually the case. A repaired car also still has to answer buyers' questions about its battery history.

When repairing makes sense

• The fault is covered by the battery warranty
• A module repair is quoted at a small fraction of the car's value
• The car is newer, low mileage and you plan to keep it for years

Selling a Tesla with a battery problem
