Selling a Car as a Woman in Dubai: What to Expect and How to Avoid Lowball Offers

Women selling a car in Dubai face the same process as anyone else, plus two things many would rather avoid: meeting unknown buyers alone, and buyers who assume a woman will accept a lower price. You do not have to accept either. Know your car's market value before anyone calls, never meet or hand over keys without someone with you, insist on bank transfer or cash in hand before signing, and treat any offer that drops sharply after a quick look as a lowball. Or skip the private sale entirely: a licensed dealer like Carology gives one firm offer, inspects the car in its showroom and pays before you leave.

Know the number before anyone calls

The single best protection against a lowball is knowing what your car is worth. Check what the same model, year and mileage is listed for on the classifieds, then take 10 to 15 percent off the listing prices, because listings are asking prices and cars sell for less. Get a free written valuation from a dealer too, so you have a floor. Once you have your number, every offer is easy to judge.

Handling calls and messages

  • Use WhatsApp rather than calls where you can, so there is a record and you can reply in your own time
  • Do not share your home address, your work address or when you are usually alone
  • Ignore anyone who opens with a price before seeing the car, or who pushes to meet immediately
  • It is fine to say the car is being sold by a family member and have them handle the calls

Meeting buyers and test drives

  • Meet in a busy public place in daylight, such as a mall car park, never at home
  • Bring someone with you, every time
  • Keep the buyer's Emirates ID and driving licence in your hand during any test drive, and go with them
  • Never hand over the keys or the mulkiya before you have been paid and the RTA transfer is done

How to recognise a lowball offer

A lowball is an offer well below the market value you already know, usually delivered with a reason: a scratch you have already priced in, a service due, a story about the market being slow. The tell-tale signs are a price that drops sharply after a two-minute look, deductions that were not mentioned before the meeting, and pressure to decide now. A fair buyer explains the offer and puts it in writing. You are allowed to say no and leave.

Getting paid safely

  • Bank transfer confirmed in your own banking app before signing anything, or cash counted in front of you
  • No cheques from private buyers
  • Complete the RTA ownership transfer together, the same day, so the car is out of your name before the buyer drives away
  • If the car is financed, the loan must be settled through the bank before the transfer: a private buyer rarely wants to handle this, a dealer does it routinely

The option that skips all of it

If you would rather not deal with strangers at all, sell to a licensed dealer. When you sell to Carology you deal only with our team, in our Business Bay showroom. You get one firm offer with no hidden deductions, you are paid by bank transfer or cash before you leave, and we complete the RTA transfer. The valuation is free and there is no obligation. Many of the women who sell to us say the reason was simple: one visit, one number, no one calling their phone.
