Selling a Car That Is in Your Husband's or Wife's Name in Dubai
In Dubai only the registered owner, the name on the mulkiya, can sell a car. Being married to the owner does not give you the right to sign. So if the car is in your husband's or wife's name, either they sell it with their Emirates ID, or they approve the transfer digitally with UAE Pass, or they give you a power of attorney that covers selling the car. Carology handles all three: you can bring the car in yourself, the owner approves on a short call, and payment goes to the owner by bank transfer or cash before you leave.
Why the RTA only accepts the registered owner
The RTA transfers ownership from the person on the registration to the buyer, and it checks that person's Emirates ID. A marriage certificate does not change that. This protects both of you: nobody can sell a car out from under its owner, including a family member.
Three ways to make it work
- The owner comes along: the simplest route, one visit, the owner signs and is paid
- The owner approves with UAE Pass: you bring the car, the owner joins a short call and approves the transfer on their phone, wherever they are
- A power of attorney: the owner gives you a notarised power of attorney that specifically covers selling the car, and you sign in their place
What to bring
- The mulkiya (registration card), or the digital vehicle licence
- The owner's Emirates ID, or the power of attorney and your own Emirates ID
- Both keys if you have them
If the car has a bank loan, it must be cleared with your bank first: pay it off, get the clearance letter and the mortgage release, and then the car can be sold like any other. The loan is in the owner's name, so the owner is the one who deals with the bank.
Who gets paid
Payment goes to the registered owner, the same person who approves the transfer. If you hold a power of attorney that covers receiving the money, it can be paid to you. Agree this between you before the sale so there are no surprises.
The easy route
Send the car details and photos on WhatsApp and tell us whose name the car is in. We will tell you which route fits and give you a price range before anyone drives anywhere. When you sell to Carology you get one firm offer with no hidden deductions, you are paid by bank transfer or cash before you leave, and we complete the RTA transfer. The valuation is free and there is no obligation.
